Winter Solistice 2010 – A Call to Light

Natural truths are part of reality, which exists of itself. Comprehending such truths is like a breath of fresh air or a kind word. You acknowledge it without an explanation, because you can use any of your senses – including common sense and intuition (your 6thsense) – to verify it.

This winter solstice occurs on a full moon, which also happens to be an eclipse. Even more than on a “regular” solstice this calls in the light to balance darkness. In the land of the light human beings are a reflection of spirit. In the land of darkness their shadow makes them forget this.

When you cultivate what is good, true, and in harmony with nature, you remember yourself as a spiritual being with a human experience. You awaken to higher vibrations, and serve as a constituent of Love, Light, and Truth. All that comes is good, because you accept it, and you give your best in the course of events. You understand that what matters is the effort, not the outcome. Challenges are part of an imperfect world, where you choose good to become a little better one step at the time. ‘Better’ is measured by the amount of peace in your mind and in your heart.

The shadow, on the other hand, is a symbol of the dark side – the sustained ability to choose negatively in order to avoid change, to remain separate and attached to what is. Can you imagine taking issue with how our bodies’ shadow moves and intertwines with other shadows? It is nonetheless very important to distinguish the shadow from the actual body so as not to get confused. The same is true with the mental or emotional shadows. Doubt, skepticism, fear, hopelessness, anger, jealousy and so on, have the effect of producing negativity.

These states are and always will be a mere shadow belonging to the world of darkness. Before realizing it to be a shadow, there is a tendency to act as though it were substantial by giving it too much time and too much power. Once these states are identified for what they actually are, it is possible, although still not usually easy, to liberate from their delusive grip.

This winter solstice is conspicuous for another reason as well. It marks the 2-year period preceding the end of the Mayan calendar. The metaphysical power and psychological effects associated with planets and their pertinent positions can aid personal and planetary evolution. Two years is Mars’ orbit around the Sun, and Mars is associated with desire and the ability to act upon them. This would suggest that what you consciously recognize now is worked out and manifested in two years. The momentum of Mars can be used to direct personal intention in whatever way desired.

You can choose to be reclusive and remain in the two-dimensional shadow world of bondage and inertia. Or you can decide to step into a reality where the light rules the shadows of darkness. This is the preferred scenario, because it leads to evolution – the process of overcoming obstacles and limitation through awareness that brings change.

Taking this last point all the way to its extreme for inspiration on how to utilize Mars in your life: it has been said that a self-realized soul, an avatar, neither casts a shadow nor leaves any footprints. In their enlightened state, avatars do not merely reflect spirit, they have become one with it – hence no imprints, and no shadow. The footprints are a metaphor for karma – the history, continued effect, and result of past actions. Ultimately, avatars represent the human potential to first choose good, non-attachment, and complete freedom of spirit, and then to act accordingly 100% of the time. In my opinion you will have more than two years to practice. But why not act as though every moment was, or counted up to be your last?

Summer Solstice – Celebrating the Light of Awareness

The metaphysical power and psychological effects associated with planets and their pertinent positions can be used to aid personal and planetary evolution. This year’s Summer Solstice has planets aligning with the Sun to form a geometrically balanced pattern in the shape of a square. The energetic qualities of a Grand Cross are challenging as they pull in the 4 major directions simultaneously – a celestial Don Quixote. Great tension, conflict, and extreme difficulties in achieving goals or resolution are the workings of the diametrically opposing forces.

The slower moving planets are forming a T-Square with the Sun filling in the 4th corner to shape a Grand Cross. The T-Square presents similar difficulties and challenges. The empty corner makes it somewhat vulnerable and instable. At the same time this is the resolution for the dynamic tension. When filled in with the required qualities, the reaped benefits are awesome: great strength, acquired skill in overcoming obstacles, and steadfastness in pursuing goals.

So rather than concentrating on a stymied Grand Cross, it is useful to view the current planetary alignment as a T-Square that “got lucky” with the transiting Sun. Since Solstice is a window of opportunity, a time of great change, this energy can increase the light of conscious awareness. As the Sun moves on, the T-Square will be left for us to deal with. The gained realizations add required stability. Once a month the Moon will pass over this same resolution point. If evolutionary awareness comes through now, the returning Moon will add sensible attunement with what is required at that time.

Uranus plays a big part in this ongoing pattern (one of the T-Square corners) and will help to create momentum for change. Uranus in Aries strikes out of the blue like a lightning bolt – truly unruly. So whatever is unresolved or at odds may erupt in a firestorm of angry combustion. The result is chaos, like a disaster area following explosion. The survivors need lots of time to process their trauma. Even when they succeed, life will never be the same. Needless to say, this type of change is not the most desirable.

When conscious awareness is the guiding light, disaster can be avoided. Uranus in Aries is also a great liberator. A mind freed from conditioning will persevere under challenges. Then Uranus in Aries helps your mind to be most creative with pioneering inventions. If your goals are clear, your own efforts create the momentum for desired manifestation. This is self-empowered success, one of the most rewarding feelings.

Jupiter in Aries is also a constituent of this T-Square, doubling up on Uranus’ energy. Jupiter’s role is to support natural principles. This has not yet been understood collectively and the combined energies will thus find new ways of getting the message across. What is true will ultimately prevail. It is seen in a balance of head and heart, of logic and intuition. When you master this balance, Jupiter is there to help you to expand your projects in successful directions.

Saturn opposes both Uranus and Jupiter. In Virgo the consciousness is focused on analysis – or on denial wherever awareness or truth is still repressed. When analysis prevails, it solves many problems. Saturn energy tends to thwart and weigh down; delays and difficulties are to be expected. On the other hand, its opposition to Uranus might well keep the truly unruly energy in check. Saturn’s discipline and focus brings practical answers. This ongoing process will also move toward a search for balance once Saturn reaches Libra. In Libra it helps with negotiations to lay the groundwork for new structures. Uranus’ global consciousness will invent it to be equitable to all, and Jupiter ensures to keep the big picture.

The other important force is Pluto in Capricorn, squared by the three aforementioned planets. Pluto is busy with enforcing lessons of control and loss thereof. It operates almost entirely in the unconscious realms. The hypocrisy of saying one thing and doing another, the hunger for power with its resulting exclusive actions, and the suppression of feelings are all part of this. Guilt plays a major role too, both acquired guilt, and guilt caused by wrong action. The purging of the acquired guilt alone could change individual and collective consciousness dramatically. There is still time, so here is the key: look at your own shortcomings, hidden vulnerability, weaknesses, and suppressed guilt complexes. What makes you feel powerless, strangely worthless despite rationally dismissing it? The answers will unlock deeply buried emotions. Although it may not feel good, it is the key to what has been bottled up and twisted beyond recognition. It must now finally be untangled to heal many lifetimes of suppressing and distorting the natural emotional body. Once this is done, it feels really, really good – peacefully grounding and empowering.

The Sun opposing Pluto enters the water sign of Cancer at Solstice. This solar energy reminds us that these emotional qualities are essential in fulfilling life’s purpose. Thoughts create emotions (reactions to thoughts). These emotions tend to enforce the associated thoughts, thus a perpetuating loop is created. In order to see a different perspective, it becomes necessary to first release the emotional content. This takes time and effort. The longer a pattern is in place the deeper it becomes ingrained.

Feeling what there is to feel is the door to awareness, a physiological reaction that leaves you transformed. Through connecting the body with thoughts to allow the alchemy of emotional release, you prepare the way for healthy relationship patterns. Through clearing emotional toxicity, the darkness of the past becomes the fertile ground for the seeds of becoming. The seeds of becoming are the gathered efforts of realizing inner security. The tears of healing provide the water for germination. Growth, and a chance to fruition manifest over time through renewed vitality. As the solar energies change direction, let go of what can’t be controlled. By purging dark emotions and redundant thoughts of limitation, you overcome the obstructions mirrored by all these squared and crossed celestial dynamics. Regaining emotional freedom adds strength from conquered challenges.

During the shifting world cycle, cataclysm is avoided with choice of the right path at the crossroads. My next newsletter will cross-reference this Summer Solstice’s Grand Cross and carry-over into a prolonged T-Square with other conspicuous patterns. This will include the Grand Trine at the first Harmonic Convergence, and an upcoming Yod. It will contain a discussion of the energies involved, and how to derive meaning and evolutionary direction.

Life Energy

The 3 ways humans absorb life energy is through sunlight, food, and breath. Since sunlight is weak at this time of year, it is a good idea to fall back on energizing foods and breathing exercises. Excellent energy sources are Goji berries grown in the Himalayan mountains, and Maca root of the Peruvian Andes. Due to high elevation, the plant species of these regions evolved under rugged conditions. But these plants also receive intense exposure to the Sun’s life giving power. Their fruit and roots store this energy, and we benefit greatly by ingesting them. Both plants contain an array of nutrients, and they have no side effects either.

Astrologically, the Sun is now in Aquarius. Aquarius directly opposes Leo, which is associated with the Sun’s life giving and sustaining energy. Aquarius, as Leo’s polarity, lacks this vital strength. In its stead it is able to detach, and through this possesses altruism. Sometimes Aquarius is also indicative of trauma. The drain of life energy due to keeping the traumatic memories at bay is enormous. This year the Aquarian energy is emphasized and expanded, as Jupiter is currently also transiting this sign. It will be followed by Mars in a couple of weeks. Libido may run dry for a while.

The Maca root is also known to increase fertility and libido. You may desire these features for procreation or simply as a source of pleasure. Although there’s nothing wrong with reproduction or sensuality, sexual energy can also be recycled to boost vitality. The sacred practice of tantra, for example, cultivates this energy for rejuvenation, longevity, and to increase awareness. Through linking personal consciousness with the infinite creative consciousness (as in yoga), practitioners gain insight as to what the Source wants to create through them. This is how procreation is turned into co-creation.

With tantra it is also possible to heal trauma from the past or past lives. The soul is androgenous. Over the course of many lifetimes, it switches gender according to the specific lessons at hand. At this point there are many people, male and female, who walk the face of this Earth with unresolved sexual wounds. This is because this energy has been repressed for many centuries. Natural sexuality was/is a taboo, and indigenous people were persecuted and tortured for being natural. Some of these atrocities committed in the name of a punishing God, were unspeakable.

The soul retains all memory, and brings forth those memories that are relevant to the themes and contexts of any specific life. Unresolved trauma is held in the cellular memory of the body. People with irrational responses such as anxiety attacks, rage fits, or hysterical crying spells sometimes suffer from unresolved trauma. It can also cause many other symptoms, such as for example impotence, frigidity, or bi-polar disease.

Needless to say, tantric practice requires a relationship, where both partners are capable of putting personal pleasure seeking aside. In this way each can be present for the other’s healing process. Using tantra to heal sexual trauma will increase the quality of life. Healing occurs through Aquarian detachment. The life energy freed from the repressed memories is liberated. Liberation and freedom, by the way, are yet another facet of Aquarius. The freed energy can be used to build and maintain the system. Thus the Leo polarity triumphs through increased vitality.

Trends of the Time

Lincoln spoke of the natural truths inherent to a healthy conscience. These truths have not changed, no matter what the political, religious/philosophical, or economic slant may be. Kindness, sharing, justice, and tolerance are some of the key ingredients of genuine prosperity. Greed, self-interest, and exclusion, on the other hand, are signs of scarcity. The latter mindset results from a haunting sense of lack. It spurs the notion to take as much as possible, and to compete unscrupulously. The ends justify the means.

In the past few weeks the truth of the actual economic situation has been revealed. Borrowing/lending against invented/false values ended up in disaster. Naturally, this was to be expected. It’s no coincidence that the collapse occurred just now either.

When we trace the energies in the sky, we find that Pluto is finishing up its pass through the sign of Sagittarius. It will not return to that sign for well over 200 years. Sagittarius is associated with natural principals. Cause and effect are such natural principles. Deregulations within the economic machinery finally had an effect. The outcome reminds us in an ominous way of the great depression. Isn’t it interesting how fast we forget and fall prey to the same old greed, self-interest, and exclusion that tripped us back then? As a matter of fact, these same trends have been running the show for thousands of years.

By the end of November Pluto is going back into Capricorn, where it will remain for a good decade and a half. We are now being given a chance to make conscious what has been controlling us subliminally. These outdated psychological patterns of dominance, hypocrisy, misuse of authority, guilt, and faultfinding are finally coming into focus. Now we can make them very clear, detach, and hopefully discard them altogether.

We are aided in purging these modes of operation from our repertoire by a galactic shift. Not only are we entering a new era, namely the Age of Aquarius, but we are also headed towards re-alignment with what Spirit is made of. The latter is a 24,000-year cycle of expansion and contraction in human consciousness. Contraction equals a mindset rooted in materialism, expansion brings awareness of metaphysical forces.

When your center is rooted in mortality, you’re much more prone to scarcity. Everything is measured and timed tightly. What matters is to have things. Yet, it never seems to be quite enough. The glass is always half empty. Conversely, if you think of yourself as an infinite soul who happens to have an earthly experience, it becomes easier to relax a bit. The glass seems half full. Because of the gravitational pull towards expansion in conscious awareness, we are now being given a chance to shine the light of truth on qualities that heal our bodies, elevate our hearts, free our mind, and liberate our souls.

The same old greed and self-interest will continue to rear their ugly heads. But in the times to come, they can be seen more clearly. A free mind and an open heart will choose prosperity over scarcity, love over hate, justice over prejudice, and sharing over exclusion. Although many people are not capable of thinking for themselves, they will gradually be exposed to these “new” trends. As more role models reflect these ideals, the herd will emulate and accordingly modify their behavior. Of course, these global patterns of realignment with transcendent values occur over hundreds, even thousands of years. For those who can read, however, the writing is on the wall.

Pluto in Capricorn

Pluto’s orbit around the Sun takes 248 years. On January 26th it enters the sign of Capricorn. This will be the first time since its discovery in 1930 that Pluto moves through Capricorn. It marks the beginning of a 15-year passage of repeating and resolving outdated psycho-spiritual patterns that have been in place for several thousand years. They are subconscious and therefore not recognized for what they are. This transit has the potential of making these processes more accessible.

Capricorn signifies the structure and boundaries of consciousness; it defines what we know. Pluto alters any structure through metamorphosis. Pluto in Capricorn lifts the boundaries to a new level. It will thus become possible to change trends in one’s thinking patterns a lot easier.

Change is inevitable and Pluto enforces it with or without human cooperation. Since Capricorn is the epiphany of determination, and Pluto stands for choice making, this planetary transit can be used to cooperate with the evolutionary lessons at hand. If you choose to persevere, the drive to excel will overcome all limitations. It will bring a level of mastery beyond what was previously believed to be possible.

Authority borne of mastery is unquestionable. Yet, authority can also be corrupted by hypocrisy, greed, or misuse of power. When it wants to enforce superiority for it’s own sake, Capricorn will bypass the necessary ingredient of mastery. Pluto’s dark side can easily aid the process with betrayal and manipulation. In this situation undeserving ones hold the scepter.

When faced with fear of loss, Pluto shows another dark facet: resistance. Within the machinery of social change this force cannot be underestimated. Those who want to retain the old ways will resist change with more might than ever. They will continue to argue that nothing is broken; therefore we need not fix a thing. This line of thinking will bring forth cataclysmic events a lot faster and stronger.

Pluto was in Capricorn during the time period that led up to the French revolution. In the present, however, the noblesse oblige has global implications. Although very similar forces of exploitation, self-interest, decadence, and exclusion are pulling the strings, Robespierre and the guillotine won’t remedy the malady.

Beware of any “what’s the use” attitude. Futility is another aspect of Capricorn. You must push through the resistance and the lead-like pressure of the grind. Gravity will increase by another g around this Pluto in Capricorn placement. Expect the pressure, endure its heavy weight with calculated poise, and watch the charcoal turn to diamond. Once enough people make the effort to do so, the fundamental configurations of society will change.

The Imprint of Change

On Tuesday, December 11th the thirteen-year cycle between Jupiter and Pluto is renewed. It sets the stage for another era of growth. The dynamics involved in the cyclic relationship between these two planets are always profound and deeply psychological. They are not conscious. Yet, every new beginning has its own specific spin that influences every soul on the planet. The influence is personal as well as collective.

The initiation point to this new cycle happens to be at 28 degrees of Sagittarius. This point lines up with the center of our galaxy, the “navel” of our world. The Source energetically feeds all galactic life through this point. It’s the spring from where life’s natural renewal, mutation, and continuation flow forth.

It doesn’t take an astrological understanding to realize that this indeed is deeply and intensely meaningful. But even with astrological expertise it is difficult to know exactly how this will play out. A bigger hand of cosmic energy and consciousness is watching over our shortcomings of attachments. It will help to shift the unnatural trespasses that have gotten us in trouble with Earth’s balance. Do not let fear of loss become the force by which darkness can bind you. Fear only fear itself.

Thus the seed is planet. If you water it with renewed positive thought, this seed will germinate as the grace of your action. It will anchor you to the planetary forces that unravel the intentions of the galactic hub. Trust this process of nature, and nurture it with your conscious participation. It will bring in the light that transmutes all darkness.

The voice of nature is also a feeling within – intuition. This is more powerful than reason. It is not a thought, but a sense that emanates from the center of our being. Learn to listen to it, and know that once you hear it, you can trust to follow it. It will always lead you to where you need to be. Because it is attuned with cosmic energy and consciousness, it cannot fail. Once you know how to feel its force, you can align with it.

When you master your alignment with this force, you become invincible. In the most evolved sense, these are the processes to unfold in the upcoming planetary cycle – understand, observe, align, and flow with them. Or ignore and be buried under the rubble of resistance.

I want to call attention to the event and invite readers to CELEBRATE this planetary alignment with affirmation of love and respect for all life. This is a simple message, a soulful song of hope and joy many have sung before. Join in, and together with Pluto and Jupiter’s reunion we can make it heard in the entire Universe!

Spiritual interests are growing everywhere. The search for a simpler existence that includes an all-encompassing natural spirituality has become a true craving for many. While accepting that we are part of something bigger, we collaborate with nature and with spirit.

The rapid pace and fragmentation of modern life creates a lot of stress. Some of this stress is caused by outdated modes of operation. These are collective patterns that remain unrecognized. They are subconscious and play out in ways that perpetuate dysfunction. From birth they influence every member of society in a chain reaction.

Throughout history religion was mixed with dogmatic principles. In thinking that there is a perfect way to do and have things, intuition and inner experience was obscured. This became the basis for confusion and insecurity, which in turn led to the unquestioned acceptance of authority figures who proclaimed dogmatic ideas.

In reality spiritual truth is dynamic; it cannot be contained within one system. Religious ideas are relative, and following them must remain a personal decision. In the end, truth is not learned, it has to be realized through inner experience.

When spirituality is rooted in intuition, no one else’s beliefs can threaten it. We simply understand truth through validation of our inner reality. We then compare this with the outer circumstances at hand. We know that those we meet are coming from this very same place. Their actions and opinions cannot make us feel insecure, because we value and follow that same process of internal guidance and outer alignment.

Those who make this shift in perception and experience become magnets for one another. Accordingly, the social chain reaction is set in motion once again. Only this time it is with constructive patterns that are liberating and equitable to all. Self-empowered people feel secure, because they trust their own life. They know that it is no one else but themselves who create the reality they experience. Thus they have no problem with taking responsibility for their circumstances. Whatever may arise, they rest assured that the solution is contained within the creative power of Spirit that guides their intuition.

When the Sun enters Gemini the intellect has precedence. The left-brain is in constant motion, naming, classifying, and relating facts, objects, and experiences. Its databanks are loaded to the brim with empirical rations. They fuel the mind for our daily navigation through the jungle of phenomenal reality. This reality has become extremely fast paced and complex.

Western lifestyle has resulted in informational overload. Nowadays people can’t sleep because their brain won’t stop thinking. Nobody seems to be able to focus with one-pointed concentration any longer than the TV screen shows an image; in average this equals 6 seconds. If you wish to get your point across, simply assume that no one’s attention span exceeds that of a toddler.

The ego feeds on facts for intellectual security. Intellect, however, is incapable of distinguishing truth from fact. With this type of mental activity there is no frame of reference. The very bottom line that integrates all the facets is amiss. This is why many people experience a lack of concentration, or even a general sense of meaninglessness. They inadvertently drown in details that extinguish their natural sense of wholeness.

To create grounding and balance, a shift to the right-brain activity called intuition is needed. Concentration returns when the whole picture becomes visible. “Aha” is an inner feeling, a sense that has meaning of its own. Thus truth is experienced. It’s a though we all of a sudden grew antennas to pick up the radio signal that was there all along.

Gemini gives us a unique opportunity to transcend duality so we may reach to the bottom line. Cognizance touches the body and we simply see the truth. It touches us, because we realize that it has become part of us and we have become part of it. We have walked the distance between the head and the heart. The reward is a cosmological experience of oneness.

Notes for Sun in Taurus

Taurus is the sign that consolidates the boisterous Aries energy. Aries thrives with new adventures and forever expands outward. Taurus comes along to consolidate and center these adventures. Because it relates to survival, Taurus savors what it already possesses.

Taurus’ assets are material, such as personal belongings. They also include inner resources, which can be talents, or acquired knowledge and skills. In order to sustain our lives we all rely on what we have established. The more self-sufficiency we accrue, the more self-empowered we are. For Taurus these resources have great meaning. As a result, certain beliefs are generated. These beliefs reflect Taurus’ individual values.

Taurus tends to take these values to an extreme of getting caught up in its own world. Everyone’s resources are limited. Some may have immeasurable wealth, but they lack health or happiness. That’s why it is important to look to other people and society for balance and sharing.

Because Taurus staleness also leads to laziness, it can degenerate into doing only what is most necessary to get by. There is no growth and no challenge within this pattern. In order to break through stagnation, Taurus people need to look at the limitations their value systems imply. This often is enforced by intense confrontation. The spouse may betray them with someone else, or some external dynamic beyond their individual control threatens their material resources.

Once Taurus learns to ask why these rather unpleasant or perhaps even cataclysmic experiences have occurred, it begins to understand and eventually overcome its naturally implied limitations. Instead of hanging on to its own views and values, this sign learns to expand its world by merging with other’s and their material, emotional, mental or spiritual resources. Spring Equinox

Equal length of day and night provides us with a benchmark. Use it to look back to Winter Solstice first. What did you intend to manifest? It could have been internal or external. Did you stay tuned to your intentions, or did you lose sight of them?

Spring Equinox is the natural window of opportunity to reflect, and assess the progress you have made with your new project. So take a moment to pause, remember, and take inventory. Renew and strengthen your resolve to manifest your desires, even if you have lost sight of them the past three months.

Spring Equinox is also a helpful time to reformulate your desires if necessary. Perhaps some of what you wanted at Winter Solstice is no longer relevant to you now. Maybe there are new desires germinating. Take notice, pay attention, and honor them!  But do not lose sight of your existing intentions just because it might be hard, or because you may be discouraged or disappointed if they haven’t manifested yet. Add the energy of your focused will power. Aries is here to give you a jumpstart. It will rev up your engine. So switch gears and keep your eyes on the road!

Like spring, Aries represents a new beginning. It implies motion, the movement that creates change. This urge for transformation requires freedom to act. Aries acts on impulse, on the conscious desire to do, be, or have something. It might not know why it wants something, just that it wants it. Although thought precedes action, with Aries the action is based on instinct rather than on preconceived concepts.

This sign of the Zodiac is in a perpetual state of becoming. Aries therefore has a primary allegiance to itself. Because Aries wants to explore and discover something new and unique about its existence, it naturally tends to be self-centered.

This energy simply wants to experience and discover. There is no calculated forethought as to how something is acquired for oneself regardless of the impact on others. Even so, because of its self-focus Aries can come across as inconsiderately taking advantage at someone else’s expense. This is why it needs relationships that provide the necessary feedback.

Once Aries learns how its actions affect others, it can begin to change this aspect. Instead of perceiving relationships as a potential threat to its freedom, self-focus extends to altruism. Aries discovers that listening to others brings new insight, and that giving is more rewarding than taking.
